Pandemic Leads to New Initiative

Rebecca Forler, a teacher education candidate at Laurier, contacted CanTeach wishing to volunteer in an online capacity to expand her experience, since her alternate practicum for April had been cancelled due to Covid-19. Rebecca and Salvadoran teacher Carolina have collaborated on a new initiative. Carolina selected a book that the students are required to read, and Rebecca is recording audio tracks that are shared with the students. This way the Salvadoran students hear it aloud, read by a first-language English speaker. Rebecca incorporated comprehension questions and the students record themselves answering these questions. They submit their work online for evaluation by Carolina, their teacher. .Creativity during quarantine!
