Student thank you to CanTeach volunteers

CanTeach Connections director Betty Ann Colquhoun and student volunteers Rachel Murphy and Sydney Sheppard from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo Canada were guests of honour recently at a virtual presentation by 11th grade English students from the Complejo Educativo San Bartolome Apostol, Soyapango, El Salvador.

The students of teacher Miriam Umanzor expressed their thanks for the informative virtual sessions on Canadian culture given by the Laurier students. They noted that their English has improved, that they have learned a lot about about Canada (think Alexander Graham Bell and James Naismith!), that they gained confidence in speaking English and that they appreciate that the volunteers gave of their time without expecting anything in return. School principal José Rudis Benítez expressed his thanks for the time and effort of everyone involved and hopes that in the future CanTeach volunteers will once again be able to visit his school.

A special moment for Betty Ann was when students Nahomy Gomez and Oscar Ramirez sang “Hallelujah “, which they knew was her favourite song. Special thanks also to masters of ceremonies Michelle Ayala and Walter Ascencio, to translator Luis Arturo Figueroa, and to Paola Campos for coordinating everything from behind the scenes. We will never forget your kindness.
